The Middlewood Trust is a charity set up provide education in sustainable lifestyles.
To these ends the trust runs a residential study centre that is off-grid and run in a very low impact way. It is itself an example of sustainable building practice with its own off grid energy system.
This facility is hired out to local and national groups to run their own events; the study centre sleeps up to twelve people and is equipped with kitchen facilities, toilets and bunks. There is also the possibility for some of your group to camp and a yurt like structure, offering an indoor camping option.
We run courses in many aspects of sustainable living. This includes craft courses, song and cultural events, courses for therapists, opportunities to get in touch with the land and ourselves, and volunteering opportunities. You are welcome to come to these on your own or in small groups. We do occasional private hire for the whole study centre (not by the bed).
The Study Centre is located on Backsbottom Farm at the northern edge of the Forest of Bowland. Our beautiful valley runs down to the river Roeburn. There are many nature trails through the native woodland and an organic farm with meadows and moorland to explore and enjoy.
